Recently, I had the chance to travel to Indonesia – a short but meaningful trip. I started in Jakarta, spending one night there with my siblings. The city was busy and full of energy, but for me, it was just a quick stop before catching the night train to Semarang the next day.

From Semarang, my journey continued by coach van to Jepara, a place known as the City of Carving. It’s easy to see why – everywhere you look, there’s fine woodwork and craftsmanship. As someone who works closely with wood products, Jepara felt like a living showroom of Nusantara’s heritage. I had some business meetings there, but I also took the time to soak in the atmosphere of this artistic city.

Next, I travelled to New Selo, located near Boyolali. The landscape was breathtaking – green hills and cool mountain air, a contrast to the busy cities earlier. It gave me a calm space to recharge before moving on.

Finally, I headed east to Jember, where I met more business partners. Unlike the big city hustle, Jember had a different rhythm – slower, warmer, and welcoming. It was the perfect way to wrap up the trip.

Then the last trip to Situbondo, also meeting business partner. Situbondo is near the sea, so a lot of ‘Kerajinan’ are focused on corals souvenirs.

Though short, this trip gave me not just business opportunities, but also inspiration. Each place had its own story, and being there reminded me how rich and diverse the culture of Indonesia is. For someone in the craft and artisan business like me, it’s more than travel – it’s discovery.
